Milestones At Brabazon In 2022
To mark the end of the past year, we look back at the highlights and milestones of the past 12 months and look ahead to what’s coming over the horizon in 2023.
Spring
We started the year with a spring in our step as we went full steam ahead to continue the transformation of the former Filton Airfield into a thriving new neighbourhood.
In February, The Navigator Building - the first collection of new flats and apartments at Brabazon - sold out months ahead of expected completion.
As our new apartment building was being built at Brabazon, our team behind the scenes was making progress off-site in developing the vision for the new neighbourhood. In April, we submitted an application to update the Masterplan for Brabazon in order to fully-realise the incredible potential of this local landmark and create the most exciting new city district in the South West.

Summer
Summer saw the first award recognition of the year for Brabazon as we scooped both the ‘Placemaking’ and ‘Large Residential Development of the 2022 categories’ at the South West Property Awards in June.
That same month, residents at The Hangar District marked the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a community street party. Amid bunting and a celebratory spread, the residents planted an oak sapling as part of a vast network of trees to honour and celebrate the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen’s Green Canopy.
Later in the summer, we unveiled Apartment 22, our very first show apartment at Brabazon, styled by interior designer Andrew Henry. This contemporary space has been the perfect platform from which to launch the second collection of stylish apartments at Brabazon, known as The Dials.
Set over six floors, the studio, 1, 2 and 3-bedroom properties at The Dials offer more space, more flexible living and much more for your money. All have access to a communal gym and residents garden as well as secure underground parking and cycle storage, with the building designed to set a new standard for apartment living in North Bristol.

Autumn
The community at Brabazon grew significantly during the autumn, when the first residents at The Navigator Building moved into their new homes. We celebrated with a social ‘meet your neighbours’ event to give the new residents a chance to get to know each other.
With the rapid progress being made at The Hangar District, in September, YTL Developments submitted a detailed planning application for the next phase of new homes at Brabazon. Designed by award winning architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, the proposed plans would include a mix of 107 2, 3 and 4-bedroom houses, alongside 232 studio, 1 and 2-bedroom apartments.
But places are about people, rather than about buildings, so we have also been pressing ahead with plans for new community facilities. In October, planning permission was granted for what will be the a focal point for the new community: Brabazon Park.
At over 15 acres, Brabazon Park will become the largest urban public park to be built in the South West for over 50 years. This modern reimagining of Britain’s historic tradition of urban public parks will offer something for everyone, with mature trees and young shrubs, exercise areas and adventure playgrounds, all set around a three-acre lake.

Winter 2022
As the days began to grow shorter and evenings started to grow colder, we reached another major milestone with the completion of our 100th home! The landmark moment came with the completion of The Parachute Building, delivered in partnership with Bromford as part of our commitment to build an inclusive new community.
And with that community ethos in mind, in November YTL Developments submitted a planning application to restore and transform the historic aircraft hangar 16U. The new plans would see the grade II listed building reimagined as a brand-new social hub, with a public library, cafe, gym and social centre, designed to meet the needs of residents of both Brabazon and the North Bristol community, now and for generations to come.
Winter has also seen the return of the awards season. To mark the end of an incredible year of progress, YTL Developments was awarded the coveted ‘Developer of the Year’ prize at the prestigious Bristol Property Awards for the second consecutive year.
Thank you to all our staff, residents, suppliers and supporters for making 2022 a year to remember at Brabazon!
